A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, has been arrested by Anambra State Police Command for allegedly killing his 69-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, in a violent dispute over proceeds from their cassava business. The tragic incident occurred on April 11, 2025, in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, where the suspect reportedly attacked his mother with an axe after accusing her of withholding money from their joint agricultural venture.
According to police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers from Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station responded to the scene at approximately 1:40 pm, where they recovered the murder weapon and took the suspect into custody. Authorities noted that Anyaji attempted to take his own life following the violent act and is currently under close police supervision to prevent further self-harm while investigations continue.
In a separate operation the same day, Anambra police conducted a successful raid on a suspected drug den in Umuokpala Village, Orumba North Local Government Area. The early morning operation resulted in the arrest of twelve individuals allegedly involved in the sale and consumption of illicit substances. Among the items recovered were quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and other prohibited drugs.
The drug suspects, identified as Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack, Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie and Nwazufu Kingsley, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
