Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnap victims and apprehended three suspects in recent security operations across the state. According to Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command recovered 14 pump-action guns alongside other dangerous weapons during the Easter security surge.
The operations yielded multiple successes. In Ihiala, a joint police-vigilante team freed two individuals abducted along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway on April 13. The victims had been forcibly transferred to another vehicle by their captors, who abandoned the original car at the crime scene. Police later retrieved the vehicle for forensic examination.
Separately, Fegge Division officers intercepted a suspicious bus at Upper Iweka, discovering five pump-action guns and eight live cartridges concealed in a rice bag. The Rapid Response Squad also arrested a 25-year-old suspected cultist in Nkpor, recovering additional weapons including two guns and an axe. The suspect reportedly confessed to belonging to the Vikings Confraternity and is assisting with further investigations.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu commended the operational teams while urging residents to maintain vigilance. He extended Easter goodwill messages, encouraging citizens to emulate Christ’s virtues of peace and selflessness. The command continues manhunt operations for fleeing suspects as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety beyond the festive period. All recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations progress.
