The Dangote Foundation has made a significant humanitarian gesture by donating 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to the Enugu State government, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians. The rice, according to the legal adviser to Governor Peter Mbah, Osinachi Nnajieze, will be distributed equitably across the state’s 17 local government areas, with each council expected to receive a minimum of 588 bags.
The initiative, which comes at a time of economic pressure for many households, is being closely managed by the state government to ensure that only the truly indigent benefit from the donation. Mr. Nnajieze emphasized that the rice is not for political allies, friends, or family members of public officials but strictly for the needy, aligning with the charitable intentions of the Dangote Foundation and the state’s broader principles of transparent governance.
In a clear signal of seriousness, the legal adviser revealed that no government official, including himself, will receive any portion of the distributed rice, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ethical governance. The message to local government chairpersons is also unambiguous: any attempt to hoard or divert the food relief will not be tolerated.
Okechukwu Ede, chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu, expressed gratitude to Aliko Dangote and assured the public that the distribution would be handled fairly, with no LGA left out or shortchanged.
