The Federal Government has announced the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will resume full flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the successful completion of emergency runway repairs.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the development in a statement issued Saturday by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah.
“FAAN engineers have certified the runway safe for operations after completing all necessary rehabilitation works,” Orah stated. “We sincerely appreciate the understanding of all airport users and stakeholders during this period. The temporary closure was solely motivated by safety considerations.”
The airport was temporarily closed on April 22 after engineers discovered a critical rupture in the runway’s asphalt surface. While initial estimates projected a May 6 reopening, repair crews completed the work ahead of schedule.
The authority apologized for any travel disruptions caused by the emergency closure but emphasized that passenger safety remained the top priority.
Travelers are encouraged to arrive early Monday as airlines may experience initial operational adjustments.
