The Enugu State government has launched a major push to revitalize technical and vocational education, distributing 30 new school buses to science and technical institutions across the state. Governor Peter Mbah, represented by his Special Adviser on Education Innovation, Dr. Chinyere Onyishi, unveiled the vehicles during a weekend ceremony in Enugu, pledging to transform the state’s education system into Nigeria’s finest.
The buses, allocated to ease transportation challenges for staff and students, align with the administration’s broader reforms aimed at shifting from rote learning to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. “Our goal is to ensure Enugu’s students compete globally,” Onyishi stated, highlighting the state’s unprecedented 33% education budget allocation for two consecutive years. “This investment reflects our commitment to breaking barriers—distance, resources, or outdated pedagogy—that hinder excellence.”
Dr. Amaka Ngene, Chair of the Science and Technical Education Management Board, praised the governor’s “disruptive innovation” in education, noting that principals and drivers had been trained on vehicle maintenance and usage protocols. “These buses are a fraction of the governor’s vision. We’ve signed agreements to ensure they serve their purpose: empowering our schools,” she said.
Principals from Nsukka and Ezeagu zones expressed gratitude, emphasizing the buses’ role in facilitating field trips, teacher mobility, and extracurricular activities. “This gesture transcends education—it’s about holistic development,” said Alumona Sylvester Chukwuemeka, Chief Supervising Principal for Nsukka Zone. “We’ll maintain these assets rigorously to maximize their impact.”
