Awka, Anambra State – In a landmark move to accelerate development across Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday, April 10, 2025, signed six critical bills into law during a ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia. The newly enacted legislations span economic investment, energy security, public safety, healthcare modernization, and education reform—marking a significant milestone in the Soludo administration’s agenda for a prosperous and secure Anambra.
At the heart of the new laws is the Anambra State Development and Investment Corporation Law, 2025, designed to create a robust framework for attracting both domestic and foreign investments. This legislation establishes a state-backed corporation to oversee strategic projects, public-private partnerships, and infrastructure development, positioning Anambra as a premier investment destination in Nigeria’s Southeast.
Complementing this is the Anambra State Electricity Law, 2025, which empowers the state to develop independent energy solutions, including renewable energy projects and decentralized power grids. With this law, the government aims to tackle persistent electricity shortages and drive industrialization across the state.
Recognizing the importance of safety in fostering growth, Governor Soludo also approved the Anambra State Homeland Security (Amendment) Law, 2025, which introduces advanced measures to combat crime, improve emergency response systems, and strengthen community policing efforts.
In a nod to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, the governor signed two groundbreaking healthcare laws: the Anambra State Herbal Practice Law, 2024, and the Anambra State Indigenous Traditional Medicine Practices Law, 2025. These legislations formalize the integration of traditional medicine into the state’s healthcare system, ensuring safe, regulated, and research-backed herbal treatments for residents while preserving indigenous knowledge.
Further solidifying Anambra’s commitment to quality healthcare, the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 2) Law, 2025 was enacted to upgrade training standards, infrastructure, and accreditation processes for nursing institutions. This move is expected to produce highly skilled healthcare professionals capable of meeting modern medical demands.
Governor Soludo lauded the Anambra State House of Assembly for its swift passage of the bills, particularly acknowledging the contributions of Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze and Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme. He emphasized that the laws reflect a shared vision for transformative governance and pledged continued collaboration on future policies that prioritize the welfare of Anambra’s citizens.
With these laws now in effect, implementation committees are set to be inaugurated to ensure seamless execution.
