Innoson Kiara Academy (IKA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian Automotive Technicians Association (NATA) to recruit, train, and employ at least 5,000 youths from the South-East over the next two years. The agreement was formalized during a forum hosted at the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing plant in Nnewi, Anambra State, on May 27, 2025.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Kiara Academy and Consortium, Mr. Endi Ezengwa, emphasized the academy’s commitment to closing the gap between education and industry while creating sustainable opportunities for youth empowerment. He noted that the new partnership would further the academy’s mission of driving growth through technical and vocational education.
Ezengwa revealed that the academy has already trained over 5,000 young Nigerians since its inception, including 2,500 through a collaborative program with the German government. He said the current initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Nigeria First policy, which promotes local production and the development of indigenous capacity.
He stressed the need for skilled manpower to boost local manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign labor, pointing out that gaps in sectors like welding and fabrication remain significant. According to Ezengwa, well-trained welders can earn up to $5,000 monthly abroad, yet many Nigerian construction firms still rely on foreign artisans due to a lack of local expertise.
The academy, backed by Innoson Group Chairman Chief Innocent Chukwuma, CON, brings together a consortium of trainers and service providers across various sectors—including engineering, agriculture, and fashion—from all five southeastern states. Ezengwa noted that beyond training, the consortium offers employment and psychosocial support, providing a holistic approach to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Chief Chukwuma also pledged to absorb as many graduates as possible into his factories and encouraged NATA members to provide opportunities for apprenticeships. Ezengwa reiterated the urgent need for government support of TVET to bridge Nigeria’s growing skills gap.
The stakeholders’ forum followed an IKA alumni reunion and recruitment event held on May 26, during which several graduates secured jobs with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, complete with accommodation packages.
