Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has approved the establishment of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to drive the implementation of the recently signed Electricity Act in the state.
The move is expected to position Anambra for decentralized power generation and distribution in line with national reforms. A recruitment process has already commenced to bring experts on board to kick-start the commission’s operations.
Additionally, the governor has sanctioned the sealing of all holding facilities used by child beggars, in compliance with the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed these resolutions following the 10th State Executive Council meeting held at the newly commissioned Government House in Awka, now named “Light House Awka” in reflection of the state’s slogan, “Light of the Nation.”
The council also approved several key contracts, including N190.4 million for the construction of a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin warehouse at the Anambra State Kaolin Plant, Ukpor, and N110.1 million for the supply and installation of a 750 KVA transformer at the same site.
In addition, the Council greenlit a N155.6 million contract for the procurement of official uniforms and operational gear for the state’s enforcement arm, Ocha Brigade.
