Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has denied allegations that he visited a native doctor to seek spiritual backing for his re-election bid ahead of the November 8 governorship election. The denial follows the circulation of a viral video purporting to show the governor in a consultation with a traditional healer.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, described the video as “completely false and maliciously fabricated.” According to Aburime, the footage was taken during an official engagement with Anambra-based content creators, hosted by the governor’s Special Senior Assistant on New Media, Ejimofor Opara.
He explained that the event provided a platform for the creators to showcase their talents and discuss industry-related issues. One of the performers presented a comedic skit involving a native doctor—a familiar trope in Nigerian online comedy—which, Aburime stressed, was purely for entertainment purposes and not an actual spiritual consultation.
Aburime condemned the distortion of the video by political opponents, accusing them of manipulating the content to mislead the public. “It is disheartening that political opponents would distort an innocent artistic presentation to mislead the public,” he said.
Reaffirming Governor Soludo’s confidence heading into the election, Aburime highlighted the administration’s achievements under the “Solution Agenda,” particularly in economic reform and creative industry support. He cited the recent commissioning of the Solution Fun City project—a new entertainment and tourism hub—as a testament to the governor’s commitment to sustainable development and job creation.
“Governor Soludo remains confident of victory based on his track record in economic and creative sector development,” Aburime concluded.
