Traditional rulers across Southeast, under the Ndi Igbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Council, have pledged to secure at least 70% of the region’s votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, citing his administration’s commitment to addressing longstanding regional disparities. Led by Abia monarch Eze Nnamdi Oforegbu, the royal fathers expressed gratitude during a visit to Deputy House Speaker Benjamin Kalu in Umuahia, applauding Tinubu for establishing the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) and appointing Igbo leaders to key roles like Deputy Speaker, Chief of Naval Staff, and Minister of Works.
Oforegbu highlighted Tinubu’s “unprecedented gestures” toward the region, including prioritizing infrastructure and political inclusion after years of marginalization. “For eight years, the Southeast held no significant federal position. Tinubu changed this,” he stated, pledging monarchs’ grassroots mobilization to “invest” votes wisely. Deputy Speaker Kalu echoed the sentiment, praising Tinubu as a “rewarder of loyalty” and vowing parliamentary efforts to constitutionally recognize traditional rulers’ role in national unity and security.
